Open Ticket: What Is It and How to Use It

Planning a trip is enjoyable, but not always predictable. Maybe your vacation isn’t confirmed, the return date is unknown, or you don’t want to depend on a fixed date. With INFOBUS, you can buy tickets for selected carriers without a fixed travel date — this is called an open ticket. Here’s a breakdown of how it works, what to keep in mind, and how to buy and activate it.

How an Open Ticket works

It’s a ticket you buy for a specific route and carrier, without choosing a travel date. The route and carrier are fixed, but you decide on the date later, once you’re ready to travel.

Note: You must register the Open Ticket (select a date) in the INFOBUS app or on the website before your trip. The ticket is not valid otherwise.

The Open Ticket service is convenient and sets INFOBUS apart from other platforms. Here are the key things to know about this service:

  1. Once a date is selected (i.e., the ticket is registered), the refund policy is the same as for regular tickets.
  2. After registration, changing the date requires an additional fee, unless the carrier states otherwise.
  3. You cannot return the ticket to “Open Ticket” status — after the date selection, it becomes a regular ticket.
  4. Open Tickets have a validity period that depends on the carrier, so make sure to check it.

How to Buy an Open Ticket?

You can buy an open ticket for an outbound journey, a return journey, or a round trip. It’s a great way to save money (e.g., buy during a promo) without committing to fixed dates.

Here’s a step-by-step guide using a return journey Open Ticket as an example:

1.    Open the INFOBUS website or app and enter your route. If you know your departure date but not your return date, in the “Return” field, click “Tickets with open date” and then “Search.”

2.    Choose your trip and click “Booking.”

3.    Then click “Choose a return route”.

4.    In the upper-right corner, click the green button “Choose a different date”, then select “Tickets with open date”.

5.     Choose the time, the carrier, and click “Booking” again.

6.    Click “Next” (or “Back” if you want to edit something).

7.    Enter your passenger details or select from saved data (if logged in). You should log in before booking to save time as the service automatically stores your passenger details for the next routes.

8.    Agree to the Terms of Service (check the box). You can also subscribe to news and updates. Then click “Booking” to continue.

9.    Choose your payment method and currency.

Pay and it’s done. Your open ticket is now purchased!

How to Register an Open Ticket?

When you know the departure date, register your ticket date. If you are logged in to INFOBUS:

Go to “Orders” in the app or on the website.

  • Find the ticket and click “Register Open Ticket.”
  • Choose a date.
  • Choose a seat if available and click “Register.”

Now you're ready to go.

If you’re NOT logged in:

1.    Visit the INFOBUS homepage.

2.    Click the 3-dot menu (as shown in the screenshot).

3.    Select “Registration of tickets with open date”.

4.    Enter your ticket/order number and security code.

5.    Choose your travel date.

Done! You’ve successfully registered your Open Ticket and are ready to set off on your journey.

The Open Ticket service is another reason to love INFOBUS. It provides flexible, convenient, and affordable journeys. When you want a plan without the pressure of sticking to one, it’s the perfect solution.

If you need assistance at any stage, the INFOBUS support team is available around the clock and always ready to help.
